Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1990
What is your primary product or service?
Custom designs on porcelain, crystal and glass. We create unique awards and gifts for corporations and dinnerware for both wholesale and retail customers.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Back in the '80's I was looking for a unique set of dinnerware for myself and could find nothing that I liked so I decided to design my own. Friends who saw the set raved and encouraged me to create designs to sell through stores. The very first year in business i had over 100 stores carrying my products and I won Buffalo NY's Start-Up Business award, beating over 300 applicants.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I don't actually have a category since I am that unique. That has been more of a hinderance since it isn't easy to fit me into a category for specific listings. I go well beyond the "place your logo here" type product which would be my closest competition.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I work in a studio at my home. I am not a retail outlet. When my company started I was located in Buffalo, NY. My business grew rapidly and I had both full time and part time staff. My husband and I moved to Mentor, OH (his home town)in 1999. Since then I have kept the business small enough that I can run it without full time help.
Provide detailed directions to your location
I can be reached via e-mail at nancy@ncmstudio.com or my personal e-mail at murnyack@yahoo.com. My cell phone number is 440-796-6475. If a company wants to meet I will come to you. My studio is a working studio and is not set up for visitors.
What type of payments do you accept?
I find that Pay Pal is the most convenient and inexpensive way to provide my customers the convenience of a credit card payment. I also accept checks, but will delay shipment until the check clears the banking system.
Which areas do you service?
Custom dinnerware for individuals, companies and restaurants
Custom awards and corporate gifts in porcelain, crystal and glass
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I, Nancy C. Murnyack, am president and artist of NCM Studio, Inc. My husband, who has many years of banking and financial experience is the CFO.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
To say that my work is better than they could ever have imagined. Actually, I get that alot!
